Trinity Calls a New Rector
It with great pleasure that we share that Trinity has called a new Rector. Rev. Johanna Marcure will be returning to Trinity. Rev. Johanna previously served at Trinity until March of 2025 when she left to serve a parish in West Virginia.
While it is uncommon for a former rector to return after leaving a parish, the Search Committee and Vestry spent many hours in conversation with Johanna. Those discussions were frank, open, honest, and, at times, deeply emotional. Together, they reflected on the past, explored the future, and carefully discerned whether God was calling Johanna and Trinity to begin a new chapter together.
Because this was an unusual circumstance, Canon Dena took additional steps to ensure that the discernment process was both thorough and transparent. Before interviews and formal discernment began, she met separately with both the Vestry and the Search Committee to discuss the process and provide guidance.
When asked why she wanted to return, Johanna’s answer was both simple and profound. Her overriding message was, “I miss you and want to come home.” That heartfelt desire, together with her vision for Trinity’s future, resonated deeply throughout the discernment process.
Rev. Johanna and her husband Rabbi Joe returned to Scituate this week and are re-establishing their home in the parish rectory. The month of August will be a “soft start” for her as she takes some time to settle-in, attend some family functions, and gets some needed rest. She will be celebrating Holy Eucharist with us on August 16th. Her first “official” Sunday as Rector will be August 30th. There will be an appropriate celebration with food and fellowship on that date, so be sure to mark your calendars.
During the month of August, we ask that you give Rev. Johanna and Joe the time and space they need to move-in and get settled. Please don’t visit the rectory unless you are invited.
The Vestry and the Search Committee would like to thank all for your prayers, patience, and steadfast support throughout this transition. All are excited to see what God has in store for Trinity and grateful to begin this new chapter.
